First Night Photography session in Barcelona - 12 shots

These are 12 of my sample images from my first Night Photography session in Barcelona.

Which challenges did I encounter?

Where should I start? Where do I end? I’m an advocate of practice makes perfect. I had no idea of idea of what I’m doing and what I’m looking for but I knew at one point I have to turn off YouTube and the computer and go out and take pictures. So I took my Sigma 85mm F1.4 DG DN Art lens for a spin around the block. The only thing I knew at this point is that my gear should be good enough for low light situtations some would even call my gear low light monster. I struggled with the settings and composing a shot. Also the focus was often times a pain in the butt. I wanted too much at the same time.

How did I solve the challenges?

I set my settings to Arperture priority and was focusing solely on taking the best and most interesting pictures I could take at that moment. Keeping it simple and learning one thing at a time.

What did I learn?

Practice makes indeed perfect. You have to go out and use your gear. While most of the pictures I took were simply bad I got more confidence in my gear and played around with some settings to understand how each of them affects my result. I still struggle to understand how shutter speed works and often times the auto focus is not doing what I want it to do but I will get the hang of it eventually.
